“Commodities” is a wide term used to refer various raw materials and products. Different commodities can be traded on Commodity exchanges. MCX and NCDEX are the major commodity exchanges of the country. MCX stands for multi-commodity exchange and NCDEX stands for National commodity and derivative exchange. The commodities are broadly divided into the categories of Agricultural and non-agricultural commodities. The crops like wheat, corn, and grains come under the category of Agricultural commodities. Precious metals like gold, silver, and copper come under the category of non-agricultural commodities. They come under precious metals. Also, many traders trade on petroleum-based commodities. Crude oil and natural gas come under this category.
The traders can choose to trade in Cash Segment or Future segment. In cash segment, the trader has to pay for the current prices of the commodities. In futures, a future contract is signed to pay for a commodity in future at future prices.
